We Removed The Transmission From The 1997 GMC Van
Yep I decided it was time for some transmission work. I did some and Tom did the most. Age is catching up with me. Just a few shots that may help but this video is more entertainment than anything else. So many of these 4l60e transmissions were installed in different vehicles that there is no cookie cutter removal procedure. I know I tried going by the manual and fond myself doing more work than needed. Just to let you know. Thanks for Subscribing and watching.

It's worth taking it apart. There is a groove than runs the full length of the shaft that also goes around the shaft. This groove becomes clogged over time. Th purpose of the groove is to pull oil up on the shaft for lubrication. It can be cleaned using a dental pick and solvent. This process shown here will help a little but will not clean out the groove.

The reservoir cap does not have a hole in it. The cap is solid and just snaps over the reservoir. I have seen a cap with a hole drilled in it on a diesel engine I was looking at some time ago. It was a way to relieve pressure that was being pushed into the cooling system. I did not buy the vehicle.

I only hesitate because of how doing a change can cause issues later if you go too long on the current fluid without changing it. Mine currently has just over 98,000 miles on it. How many miles were on the fluid in your HHR?
